5-Alarm Energy Shots*Review*

I’ve always been a fan of energy drinks. I have tried many and most of the time I decide which ones I like by the flavor of the drink. The thing that caught my eye on these energy shots was the name, 5-Alarm  .

5-Alarm  shots are from a company out of Dayton, OH and appealed to me from the catchy name and flavor names. They have three flavors: Blaze, Smolder, and Extinguish. I’ll go more into the flavors in a minute.

5-Alarm  did a great job on the logo, bottle label, and names of the flavors. The logo is a Maltese cross with the company name on it. The bottle label is in bright colors and sports an SCBA bottle look to it.

A little about the intense flavors

According to researchers at Wheeling Jesuit University smelling cinnamon can help improve memory and cognition in humans.
Cinnamon compounds can prevent swelling of the brain cells and may reduce complications associated with traumatic brain injury and stroke that cause restricted blood supply to the brain, according to research conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Cayenne causes the brain to secrete more endorphins. It is considered thermogenic, meaning it can “rev up” metabolism and aid in
weight loss.
Cayenne helps to relieve pain, not only due to its endorphin enhancing properties, but also helps to block the transmission of substance P, which transports pain messages to the brain
Bryan Raudenbush, an associate professor of psychology at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia, found that athletes who had a sniff of peppermint performed better than those who didn’t.
Researchers at University of Cincinnati found that a whiff of peppermint helped test subjects concentrate and do better on tasks that required sustained concentration. “Not only do you get an improvement in focus with peppermint, you get a change in response that affects alertness in target detection,” the study’s co-author Joel Warm said.

Another thing that appealed to me was that the company donates a portion of the proceeds to the Sons of the Flag Burn Foundation. If you don’t know about Sons of the Flag, go check them out, the provide resources for the survivors  of burns injuries. Sons of the Flag is unique to me in that they encompass many resources including a Board of Directors, Medical Doctors, and Volunteers.

5-Alaram  sent me 8 bottles, 4-Smolder and 4-Extinguish.

The Smolder appealed to me because of the cinnamon flavoring. This was the first cinnamon flavored energy shot that I had seen.  Most of the time you think of these energy shots having fruity flavors which to me just taste like sugar. The cinnamon is definitely INTENSE! I took a sip and didn’t taste anything but the cinnamon, no sugary taste at all. To me, that’s a good thing! I took the energy shot while I was working a 12 hour night shift at Dispatch. It did actually give me some energy to stay awake that night.

The Extinguish is the peppermint flavored shot, and like the Smolder, the flavor is very INTENSE. To me, the peppermint was a little too intense. I like that it didn’t taste sugary, but unless you really like the flavor of peppermint,, it may be overwhelming especially if you take it as a shot. I didn’t notice much of any difference in what I felt after taking the two different shots. I did notice some energy boost with both.

I would buy the Smolder again, especially over buying one of the other brands that we all know.

If you are one who likes and uses energy shots, give these a try and see what you think!

They even offer a Rep program if you are looking for something to do on the side.

Over all I like the company and especially the fact that they give back and support the Sons of the Flag Foundation.
